PIACT

What is the project about?

Faced with the crisis of adaptation to the negative impacts of climate variability and climate change that harm various aspects of human life, related to food security, water resources, the economy, health, among many others, Humanity is It is in search of environmentally sustainable solutions, which become increasingly complicated and demand greater efforts at the regional and global levels. Due to all of the above, and due to the need to strengthen adaptation and resilience in the face of climate variability and change, the Climate Observatory of the National Center for High Technology (CeNAT), a program of the National Council of Rectors (CONARE ) of Costa Rica, develops since 2015 the Interactive Tropical Climate Application Platform (PIACT).

Why is this project important?

PIACT is a technological tool created for decision-making in the face of the threat of extreme hydrometeorological phenomena, droughts, excessive rains, high temperatures, strong winds, among others. In addition, this tool was created with the purpose that all the productive sectors of Central America benefit from meteorological and climate information, as well as short, medium and long-term perspectives, to minimize production risks, mainly in the agricultural sector.
